Previously, we’ve used the show to test out new improv games for Making Shit Up, and even Harith Iskander Live started out as a Joke Factory Mystery Show! This week, we see Mad Sabah, Keren Bala Devan, Michael Saddi, Abé Latté and Brian Tan as they try try out their new long form standup comedy material! TRAVEL TROUBLES (26 SEPT)

Culture shocked? Language barrier problems? Or just plain lost in an unfamiliar place? We’ve all been there.. and these comics will share with you their funniest stories about travelling and being a foreigner! Featuring Yuichiro Kinjo from Japan, Fathimath Nuha from the Maldives, Michael Saddi from the Philippines, Mad Sabah from Borneo, and hosted by frequent jetsetter Sulaiman Azmil, you’re in for a fun time!

Keren Bala Devan will be headlining The Joke Factory for the first time!

A regular in the Malaysian standup comedy circuit and a frequent performer at The Joke Factory, Keren will finally bring you a full hour of his best material, straight up, unfiltered, and unadulterated!

Honing his skills on the mic since 2012, Keren Bala Devan has made a name for himself in the local scene with his hilariously vicious takedowns of popular culture, tradition, and socially accepted behaviour. This reputation for incisive and insightful commentary on stage has rightfully earned him the nickname “Cultural Assassin” of Malaysian comedy.

His talent and experience has gotten him several televised appearances including on Comedy Central Asia and iflix’s Oi! Jaga Mulut. He’s also an accomplished writer having published articles in Esquire Malaysia as well as producing his own podcast with Netflix’s Kavin Jay.

In the aftermath of GE14, a fellowship of comics joined hands to form 1Malaysia Comedians Bureau (1MCB). Proudly and unabashedly Malaysian, 1MCB presents its first ever show at The Joke Factory!

Featuring Brian Tan, Gajen Nad, Keren Bala Devan, Shamaine Othman and Sulaiman Azmil! With humour that straddles popular culture, politics, food (vegetarian and non-vegetarian – 1MCB caters to all!), history, international and domestic relations, love, science and technology, movies, music and even the elusive field of vexillology, an evening with 1MCB promises to be a side-splitting journey of laughter and hilarity!

Nigel Ng

Nigel Ng is a Malaysian stand-up comedian based in London. He made his TV debut in 2018 on Comedy Central’s Rob Delaney’s Stand Up Central, shortly followed by Comedy Central’s Roast Battle.

He had an incredible debut run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this year with his sell out show Culture Shocked, and to top it off, he was nominated for the prestigious Best Newcomer Award.

He won the Amused Moose Laugh Off 2016 and was runner up in the Laughing Horse New Act of the Year 2015. He was also a finalist in the Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year 2016 and Leicester Square New Comedian of the Year 2015 competitions. He was selected to perform in The Pleasance Comedy Reserve at Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2017.
